Nelson is the main airport at the top of the South Island. It serves the Tasman and Nelson regions and is a popular base for scenic flights into Abel Tasman and Kahurangi National Parks.

- VFR routes: Abel Tasman coast and Wairau Valley are common.
- Brightwater transit lane T653 and published VFR departures.
- Noise: Sensitive areas to the south of the field.
Hazards
- Strong sea breeze and nor’westerly wind shifts.
- High traffic in summer (scenic ops).
- Terrain to the south (Maitai Valley).
Recommended Approaches
- RNAV 02 / 20: Standard IFR arrivals.
- Visual: Coastal or via the Wairau Valley from the east.
